Baseball Fundraising
Every year, youth sports teams organize
fundraisers to meet the monetary needs of the team in order to
avoid the high costs associated with running a league.
The more successful a baseball fundraiser is the quicker and easier
leagues are able to repair and maintain baseball fields, hire
new umpires, provide new uniforms and lend teams good
equipment.
But, in order for that to happen, successful
fundraisers that all players participate in must happen. There
are several traditional fundraising ideas for baseball leagues
to try, and new ideas crop up every year to maximize profits.
Here are some of the best baseball fundraisers.
Baseball Candy Sales
Baseball candy sales are the most popular and convenient
fundraising idea for players to do. They can sell individually
or as a team, which are both great ways to fundraise. But,
there are some tips that sports teams can use to maximize their
reach and profits with candy sales.
Instead of just handing a box of candy to
the players, organize a day of practice and mock sales. Talk to
the players about the reason for selling the candy to begin
with. When the players understand why they are selling and have
a few simple sales techniques at their disposal they are able
to persuade family and friends and sell more candy faster.
Another great tip for sports teams that
decide to sell as a group is to pick a high traffic location to
set up a booth. High traffic locations in the community are
best because you can reach the most potential customers in the
shortest period of time. Location is very important, but
visibility also plays a role. Use the space and the members of
the team to your advantage. If you decided to set up a booth in
front of a local grocery store place players in front of each
door to make sure you don’t miss anyone. Also, place bright
posters or signs up so that people know who you are and why you
are there. Sometimes, knowing that it is a youth team and not a
group of mothers will make people more willing to help out.
No matter where you decide to set up your
booth, make sure you speak with the manager and get permission
to sell in front of their location. Set a time that you will be
there for and don’t go over it and inconvenience the store
manager. Make sure everything is ready for the sale including
change and price sheets.
Finally, offer another way for folks to
donate to your sports team if they do not want to purchase what
you are selling. Here is another fundraising idea along those
lines.
Fundraising discount cards
Discount cards are another great idea for sports teams trying
to raise money. With a discount card you can work with local
stores or restaurants to pass savings on to those you sell to
while making money for your fundraiser at the same time.
Discount cards are a great seller for families, workers or just
people who like to eat out because they can be used at their
convenience.
Before you choose a discount card to use for
your fundraiser make sure you understand the discount that is
being offered so you can choose the one that will appeal to the
most people. In order to sell more cards, point out the perks
and benefits that come with the card, such as a buy one get one
free meal for something that was already going to be
purchased.
Event ideas
Community events are another great way to raise funds for your
baseball team. The events that work out the best, and are the
most success are those that are centered around the league and
that call for people to be actively involved. So, try to plan
your events around league events, such as during tryouts or
opening day.
Include activities into your events that
entire families and every member of the community can enjoy
such as silent auctions, family competitions, carnival games,
pie eating contests, or community baseball games with prizes
given to the winning team.
To increase your profits include food sales
into your event. Sponsor a bake sale where all members of the
team bake and donate a sweet treat to be sold during your
fundraising event. You can also have a booth just for food and
beverage sales and include specialty items like foot long corn
dogs, cotton candy and turkey legs. Work with local vendors to
get as much of a discount on the food and equipment as possible
and watch your fundraising dollars pile up.
