Fundraising Events
Fundraising events are used by charities and
other nonprofit groups in order to raise the money needed by
their groups to fund activities and the operation of the group.
Before you decide on holding a fundraising event you need to
understand everything that is involved in the planning and
carrying out of such an event. Since these events can run the
entire spectrum of size it is important to know what your group
can handle.
Fundraising events are held for a single
reason, to entertain donors while getting them to lend
financial support at the same time. It is important to remember
that the biggest part of your event is actually getting the
donors to it. Provide some unique form of entertainment or
activity to make them feel better about attending and opening
their wallets.
Choose an event that will best reflect the mission of your
charity, as well as highlight the work you are doing. A great
fundraiser is good, but if no one knows a thing about your
charity and what it does then you are not making any connection
with the community you are asking for help from.
A huge part of the planning of such events
will require help from your members, the community and local
businesses and business leaders. Approach businesses for
donations on materials and supplies, speak with local
restaurants to see if they will offer your group a discount on
catering, or even give it to you at cost. By reaching out into
the community and the businesses that make it up you save
yourself money on the event, but can also offer them free
advertising at the event. Plan to have a brochure for the night
and give each donor advertising space at the end and ask your
donors and members to support these businesses in the
future.
For entertainment, first look to the members
of your group. You never know what talents or abilities your
members have until you ask. It is possible that someone would
be willing to provide live music, their services as a Dj or
might know of a celebrity that is willing to make an
appearance.
Whatever type of fundraising event you
decide to hold work with any boards, leaders and members of
your group to determine what is best for you. Coordinate
volunteers and community leaders for all aspects of the event
and make sure you have a plan in place to help things run
smoothly.
